Océ European technology lab for Canon in Holland
Canon will make Océ, based in Venlo and with a research department at the High Tech Campus Eindhoven, its European Innovation Center. This announcement was made on Thursday 27 January 2011 by Mr. Rokus van Iperen, Chairman of the Board of Océ. "Japanese management attaches great value to innovation and see the benefits and surplus value of the area around Eindhoven and Venlo as an innovative region," according to Van Iperen.
The company could not disclose yet any details regarding investment amounts and job creation in the Netherlands. An annoucement is expected in the coming weeks. According to Dutch newspaper 'De Telegraaf' Canon is especially looking at the new inkjet technology developed at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.
Research & Development is of enormous importance to Canon and Océ. In 2009, Océ invested approximately €225 million, or 8% of total revenues, in R&D. Océ operates research centers in nine different countries worldwide, staffed by more than 1,550 highly-skilled professionals. R&D activities in Venlo concentrate on the development of cutsheet and wide format printers and scanners, strategic consumables (incl. toners and photoconductors) and software. Océ’s Inkjet Application Centre is located in Eindhoven.
