Speed recordSince 2008 TU Delft students have participated in competitions for hydrogen cars with the Forze team. During the meeting following the record drive the minister emphasized the importance of the automotive sector. "With a 17 billion Euro turnover and employment for 45,000 people this sector is an important player. Moreover, there are another 2,500 people involved in research & development in this field." Competitive positionVerhagen also pointed out the innovative aspect of hydrogen racing. "It's not just about clear air and quieter roads. It is also good for the competitive position of our companies and the international appearance of our country." Pure water emissionThe Forze IV is a lightweight formula racing car driven by a hydrogen fuel cell. The cell supplies the two electric motors with power and lets the car speed up from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 5 seconds. The racing car's only emission is pure water.
