Cooperation agreement on foreign direct investment promotion in the Netherlands

On 6 December 2010, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (BTMU) and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) signed a Cooperation Agreement on the promotion of direct foreign investment in the Netherlands, at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam.

The Netherlands, which ranks 16th in GDP worldwide[1], is one of the leading countries in the world for attracting foreign direct investment[2]. The country is located in the center of Europe, the important strategic point of land, ocean, and air transportation. The Netherlands is home to many foreign-owned distribution centers and sales offices.  Additionally, it is an attractive place for controlling offices and intermediate holding companies, because of the various favorable systems for foreign investments, tax treaties with many countries, and simple procedures to establish and operate companies.

For foreign companies wishing to establish their business in the Netherlands and to take advantage of the Dutch business environment as a strategic base to cover Europe, the NFIA is the first port of call. Founded more than 30 years ago, the NFIA is an operational unit of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. Throughout the years it has supported thousands of companies from all over the world to successfully establish their business in the Netherlands.

The agreement between BTMU and NFIA will bring mutual benefits. The NFIA can accelerate its activities through BTMU’s large network of Japanese companies, while the BTMU can call on NFIA’s support to offer quality information and services to targeted companies that consider branching out in Europe.

Through this tie-up, BTMU will become involved in promoting foreign investment in the Netherlands in various ways such as taking part in investment seminars, and obtaining information from NFIA about investment policies and trends, in order to strengthen the support for our customers who consider an investment or branching-out in the Netherlands.
