Information & Communications TechnologyEquipped with state-of-the-art digital telecommunications network, the Netherlands represents not just the physical, but also informational gateway to Europe. With its sophisticated glass fibre telecom infrastructure, the Netherlands is one of the most wired countries in the world. Internet penetration in the Netherlands is amongst the highest in Europe and the country has become a good market for new technologies. The Netherlands was ranked as sixth in a survey conducted by the World Economic Forum in 2007, which identifies how innovative countries are with regards to Information & Communications Technology (ICT). The survey which involved 122 countries is conducted every six years, and tests three factors: innovative environment, the skills of individuals, companies and governments and the implementation of IT and communication. The Netherlands' location and links within Europe have already attracted a large number of international ICT companies that have chosen the country as their strategic hub for penetration into the European market. Some of these include Cisco, Dell Computer and Abaco International. |
